ABOUT THE BOOK

THE GREEK IN ME

My Search for My Birthmother

Given up at just three days old, Deborah Gallios was raised by loving Greek immigrant parents in Chicago, surrounded by strong family values, faith, and tradition. Yet, like many adoptees born in the 1950s, she had no authentic birth certificate, no medical history, and no knowledge of her earliest beginnings. Those missing pieces became a quiet but persistent presence throughout her life.

Spanning decades and set in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, The Greek in Me follows Deb through childhood bullying, adulthood milestones, marriage, motherhood, loss, and personal reinvention—ultimately leading her to a courageous decision later in life: to search for her birthmother and reclaim her story for herself, her daughter, her grandsons, and future generations.
